The Large Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra says: "All tathāgatas abide together in one place, subsumed by the inherently pure, undefiled realm." It also says: "The buddhas of the three periods of time abide in the realms of the ten directions to expound the true Dharma for all sentient beings; none fail to use original nature-emptiness as the buddha-eye. Apart from original nature-emptiness, there is no other expedient means." Explication: "Original nature-emptiness" is precisely the inherently pure citta. "Original nature" is svabhāva; "emptiness" means purity. This citta is originally possessed by both the ordinary and the sage; it has ever been so from antiquity to the present. Sentient beings do not know it, so the buddhas point it out and confer it because of this; sentient beings presently possess it, so the ancestral masters transmit it to one another on this account. Therefore it says that apart from this, there is no other expedient means.
