The Pusa chutai jing says: 'For example, the springs, reservoirs, and pools, and the swift currents of the five rivers each have their own names, but when they all return to the sea, they no longer have their original names. It is also like Mount Sumeru standing firm and immovable: when birds of various colours come to depend upon the mountain, they all become of the same colour and no longer have their original colours. The bodhisattva-mahāsattvas transforming sentient beings and purifying Buddha lands are also like this. The thoughts in the minds and consciousnesses of sentient beings differ, having various thoughts; [the bodhisattvas] can cause all to reach the gate of liberation, so that conceptualisation is stabilised and consciousness is extinguished, whereupon they no longer have their original thoughts, sharing in the same liberation.'
