Regarding the eleventh patriarch, Puṇyayaśas: at that time the venerable Pārśva, under a tree, pointed with his finger to the ground beneath the tree and told the great assembly, “If this ground turns into a golden color, a sage will enter this assembly.” No sooner had he spoken, in an instant, it turned into a golden color. The venerable one raised his hand, and saw a person standing before the assembly. The venerable one asked, “Where do you come from?” Yaśas said, “My citta does not go.” The venerable one asked, “In what place do you abide?” Yaśas said, “My citta does not stop.” The venerable one asked, “Are you unsettled?” Yaśas said, “The Buddhas are also like this.” The venerable one asked, “You are not the Buddhas.” Yaśas said, “The Buddhas are also not.” At that time Yaśas spoke a verse in praise:
“The master sits on the golden ground,
Constantly preaching the real meaning.
Turning the light to illuminate me,
He causes me to enter samādhi.”
Furthermore, the Dharma-transmission verse says:
“Delusion and awakening are like concealment and manifestation;
Light and darkness are not separate from each other.
Now I entrust the Dharma of concealment and manifestation:
It is neither one nor two.”
