After giving the Dharma-transmission verse to the venerable Haklenayaśas, the twenty-second patriarch, Manorhita, rose from his seat, leaped into empty space, performed the eighteen transformations, and then returned to his original seat. Pointing to the ground with his finger, he transformed it into a spring, and spoke a verse:
“The pure spring of the ground of citta,
The dragon moistens all.
Surging forth from the earth,
It pervasively fills and rescues the ten directions.”
Furthermore, the Dharma-transmission verse says:
“Citta turns following the ten thousand objects;
Where it turns is truly profound.
Following the flow, one recognizes the nature:
There is neither joy nor sorrow.”
