The Fahua yanmi states: 'The perfect interfusion of phenomenon and principle means that all various phenomena correspond to principle and pervade it. Taking the principle of tathatā as the great furnace and interfusing the myriad phenomena as the great smelting, the molten iron overflows without any different characteristics. If one opens the provisional and reveals the real, [showing that] everything is mind-only, one also takes initial interfusion as the fundamental: phenomenon and phenomenon are unobstructed. Layer upon layer they inter-reflect, just as in the painful retributions of the hells, where each body individually pervades. Such inconceivable, wondrous phenomena are originally so of themselves. Every Buddha awakens to this of Himself, whereas sentient beings do not know it. Now it is explained: this very knowing—the mind of sentient beings itself—is the Buddha's wisdom. The very phenomenon is profound and wondrous; entering the mind, it becomes contemplation.'
