「第五、體用自在者，體即法性之理，用乃智應之事。舉體全用，用即非一；舉用全體，體即非異。即體之用不閡用，即用之體不失體；所以一味雙分，自在無閡。

"Fifth: regarding 'Sovereignty of essence and function,' essence is the principle of Dharma-nature, and function is the phenomena of wisdom's response. Raising essence, it is entirely function—function is then not one; raising function, it is entirely essence—essence is then not different. Function which is identical to essence does not obstruct function; essence which is identical to function does not lose essence. Therefore, the single flavor is doubly divided, sovereign and unobstructed.
