"Eighth: regarding 'The single boundary of sameness and difference,' sameness relies on principle being unchanging; difference is based on phenomena according with conditions. Therefore, because it is unchanging, it can accord with conditions; because it accords with conditions, it is unchanging. Merely because of non-difference do different phenomena come to be; because of non-sameness is the gate of sameness established. If it were different, difference would be destroyed, because it would lose its essence; if it were the same, sameness would not be accomplished, because it would lack function. Therefore, sameness, being devoid of sameness, is different; difference, being devoid of difference, is the same. Grasping each separately falls into annihilation and permanence; fusing both accomplished the Buddhadharma. Hence the sūtra says: 'Wonderful! The World-Honoured One, within dharmas of non-difference, explains the difference of dharmas.'
