1.16

大覺曰。夫為一方主者。欲行所得之道而利於人。先須克己惠物下心於一切。然後視金帛如糞土。則四眾尊而歸之矣（與九仙詡和尚書）。

Dajue said: “One who acts as the leader of a region, wishing to practice the Way he has attained and benefit others, must first conquer himself, confer kindness upon things, and humble his mind toward all. After that, regarding gold and silk as dung and dirt, the fourfold assembly will honor him and turn to him.” (*Letter to Master Xu of Jiuxian*)
