1.17

大覺曰。前輩有聰明之資。無安危之慮。如石門聰棲賢舜二人者。可為戒矣。然則人生定業。固難明辨。細詳其原。安得不知其為忽慢不思之過歟。故曰。禍患藏於隱微。發於人之所忽。用是觀之。尤宜謹畏（九峯集）。

Dajue said: “Predecessors possessed the endowment of intelligence but lacked concern for safety and peril. People such as Shimen Cong and Qixian Shun can serve as warnings. However, although the fixed karma of human life is indeed difficult to discern clearly, if one closely examines its origin, how can one fail to know that it was the fault of negligence and lack of forethought? Thus it is said: ‘Disasters and calamities lurk in what is hidden and subtle, and burst forth from what people neglect.’ Viewed in this light, one should be all the more cautious and fearful.” (*Collection of Jiufeng*)
