Master Yunju Shun, styled Laofu, resided at Qixian on Mount Lu. Due to a private grudge, the prefectural administrator Huai Docguan framed him on perverse charges and forcibly defrocked him into civilian clothes. He went to the capital to visit Dajue. Upon reaching Shanyang (that is, Chuzhou), he was blocked by snow at an inn. One night, a guest leading two servants arrived, pushing through the snow. Seeing Laofu, it was as if they were old acquaintances. Shortly after, changing his clothes, he bowed before him. Laofu questioned him, and the guest said: ‘In the past at Dongshan, I followed the master as a capable servant from Hanyang carrying your baggage, Song Rong.’ Laofu spoke with him of the past, and the guest sighed for a long time. At dawn, he prepared food and presented five ounces of silver. He also called over a servant and said: ‘This boy has traveled back and forth to the capital many times and knows the obstacles of the road thoroughly. The master will surely have no worries on his journey.’ From this, Laofu was able to reach the capital. Inferring from this, one can know even more clearly what both of them maintained in their ordinary lives.” (*Collection of Jiufeng*)
