Master Yuan said: "Between heaven and earth, there are indeed things that grow easily, yet if one exposes them to the sun for one day and chills them for ten, one has never seen any that could live. The unsurpassed, wondrous Way is clearly present before one's mind and eyes; therefore it is not difficult to see. What is essential is firmness of will and vigor of practice; it can be awaited while sitting or standing. If one believes for one day and doubts for ten, is diligent in the morning and shrinks back in the evening, how could it be difficult to see only in the present? I fear that throughout one's whole life one will turn one's back on it!" (From A Letter to Head Monk Yun).
