Huitang said, ‘The Way of the sages is like heaven and earth nurturing the myriad things: there is nothing that is not complete within the Way. The way of ordinary people is like the Yangzi, the Yellow River, the Huai, and the Ji, the mountains, streams, hills, valleys, plants, trees, and insects: each exhausts its own capacity, that is all, not knowing that outside of this there is nothing not complete. Is the Way two? It is because the depth or shallowness of attaining it makes the accomplishment small or great!’ (Letter in Reply to Zhang Wujin)
