晦堂曰。久廢不可速成。積弊不可頓除。優游不可久戀。人情不能恰好。禍患不可苟免。夫為善知識達此五事。涉世可無悶矣（與祥和尚書）。

Huitang said, ‘What has long been neglected cannot be quickly accomplished; accumulated abuses cannot be suddenly eliminated; leisurely roaming cannot be long indulged in; human feelings cannot be exactly satisfied; misfortunes cannot be improperly avoided. If a kalyāṇamitra penetrates these five matters, he can navigate the world without distress.’ (Letter to the Venerable Xiang)
