黃龍室中有三關語。衲子少契其機者。脫有詶對。惟斂目危坐。殊無可否。延之益扣之。黃龍曰。已過關者掉臂而去。從關吏問可否。此未透關者也（林間錄）。

In his room, Huanglong had three checkpoint questions, and few monks tallied with his turning points. If any responded, he would merely lower his eyes and sit upright, giving neither approval nor disapproval. Yanzhi pressed him further. Huanglong said: "Those who have already passed the checkpoint swing their arms and walk away. To ask the checkpoint guards for approval or disapproval—these are the ones who have not yet penetrated the checkpoint." (Linjian lu)
