明教曰。凡人所為之惡。有有形者有無形者。無形之惡害人者也。有形之惡殺人者也。殺人之惡小。害人之惡大。所以游宴中有鴆毒。談笑中有戈矛。堂奧中有虎豹。隣巷中有戎狄。自非聖賢絕之於未萌。防之於禮法。則其為害也。不亦甚乎（西湖廣記）。

Mingjiao said: “As for the evil done by ordinary people, there is that which has form and that which is formless. Formless evil harms people; evil with form kills people. The evil of killing people is small, but the evil of harming people is great. For this reason, there is poison within banquets; there are spears and shields within laughter and talk; there are tigers and leopards within inner chambers; there are barbarian tribes within neighboring alleys. Unless sages and worthies cut it off before it sprouts and guard against it with ritual and law, would not the harm it causes be extreme?” (*Extensive Record of the Western Lake*)
