湛堂曰。予昔同靈源侍晦堂于章江寺。靈源一日與二僧入城。至晚方歸。晦堂因問。今日何往。靈源曰。適往大寧來。時死心在旁。厲聲呵曰。參禪欲脫生死。發言先要誠實。清兄何得妄語。靈源面熱不敢對。自爾不入城郭。不妄發言。予固知靈源死心皆良器也（日涉記）。

Zhantang said: 'In the past, Lingyuan and I served Huitang at Zhangjiang Monastery. One day Lingyuan went into the city with two monks and did not return until evening. Huitang asked, "Where did you go today?" Lingyuan said, "We just went to Daning." At that time, Sixin was by his side, and he sternly rebuked him, saying, "In practicing Chan one seeks to escape saṃsāra; in speaking, one must first be truthful. Brother Qing, how could you utter a falsehood?" Lingyuan's face turned hot, and he did not dare reply. From then on, he did not enter the city walls, nor did he speak falsely. I truly knew that both Lingyuan and Sixin were fine vessels.' (*Rishe ji*).
