2.19

靈源謂伊川先生曰。夫人有惡其跡可畏其影却背而走者。然走愈急迹愈多而影愈疾。不如就陰而止影自滅而迹自絕矣。日用明此可坐進斯道（筆帖）。

Lingyuan said to Master Yichuan: 'There was a man who hated his footprints and feared his shadow, so he turned his back and ran away. But the faster he ran, the more footprints he made, and the swifter his shadow became. It would have been better to step into the shade and stop; then the shadow would naturally vanish and the footprints would naturally cease. If one understands this in daily application, one can calmly advance into this Way.' (*Bitie*).
