靈源曰。凡住持位過其任者鮮克有終。蓋福德淺薄量度狹隘。聞見鄙陋又不能從善務義。以自廣而致然也（日錄）。

Lingyuan said: 'Whenever an abbot's position exceeds their capacity, they seldom have a good end. This is because their blessings and virtue are shallow, their tolerance is narrow, their learning and experience are vulgar, and they are unable to follow goodness and strive for righteousness to broaden themselves, thus bringing about such an end.' (*Rilu*).
