2.47

佛鑑曰。凡為一寺之主。所貴操履清淨。持大信以待四方衲子。差有毫𩬊猥媟之事於己不去。遂被小人窺覷。雖有道德如古人。則學者疑而不信矣（山堂小參）。

Fojian said: "Whoever serves as the master of a monastery must value pure and clean conduct, maintaining great trustworthiness to receive the patch-robed monks from the four quarters. If the slightest vulgar or indecent matter remains unpurged from oneself, one will instantly be spied upon by petty men. Even if one possesses the Way and virtue like the ancients, students will doubt and not believe in one." (Shantang Xiaocan)
