3.25

死心住翠巖。聞覺範竄逐海外道過南昌。邀歸山中。迎待連日厚禮津送。或謂死心喜怒不常。死心曰。覺範有德衲子。鄉者極言去其圭角。今罹橫逆是其素分。予以平日叢林道義處之。識者謂。死心無私於人故如此（西山記聞）。

When Sixin resided at Cuiyan, he heard that Juefan had been banished to the overseas regions and was passing through Nanchang. He invited him to the mountain, received and hosted him for successive days, and saw him off with generous gifts. Some said that Sixin was inconsistent in his joy and anger. Sixin said: 'Juefan is a monk of virtue. Formerly, I spoke severely to wear away his sharp corners. Now that he has encountered adversity, it is his allotted lot. I treat him according to the ordinary righteousness of the monastic grove.' Those with discernment said: 'Sixin had no partiality toward people, and therefore acted thus.'"
