3.31

草堂謂空首座曰。自有叢林已來。得人之盛無如石頭馬祖雪峯雲門。近代唯黃龍五祖二老。誠能收拾四方英俊衲子。隨其器度淺深才性能否發而用之。譬如乘輕車駕駿駟總其六轡奮其鞭策。抑縱在其顧盻之間。則何往而不達哉（廣錄）。

Caotang said to Head Monk Kong: "Since the existence of monastic groves, none have matched Shitou, Mazu, Xuefeng, and Yunmen in the abundance of gathering talent. In modern times, there are only the two elders Huanglong and Wuzu. Truly, they were able to gather outstanding monks from all four quarters, releasing and employing them according to the depth of their capacity and their abilities. It is like riding in a light carriage drawn by a fine team of four horses, grasping all six reins and applying the whip, checking or loosing them at a mere glance—whither would they not reach?"
