3.40

山堂謂野菴曰。住持存心要公行事。不必出於己為是以他為非。則愛惡異同不生於心。暴慢邪僻之氣無自而入矣（幻菴集）。

Shantang said to Ye'an: “An abbot must maintain an impartial mind in conducting affairs, and not insist that things come from himself to be considered right, while taking others to be wrong. Then likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements will not arise in the mind, and the vapors of violence, arrogance, and perversity will have no avenue of entry” (Huan'an ji).
