妙喜曰。佛性住大溈。行者與地客相歐（於口切捶也）佛性欲治行者。祖超然因言。若縱地客摧辱行者。非惟有失上下名分。切恐小人乘時侮慢事不行矣。佛性不聽。未幾。果有莊客弒知事者（可菴集）。

Miaoxi said: “When Foxing resided at Daguishan, a postulant got into a brawl with a tenant farmer. Foxing wanted to punish the postulant. Zu Chaoran thereupon said: ‘If you give free rein to the tenant farmer to humiliate the postulant, you will not only lose the proper distinction of superior and inferior status, but I deeply fear that petty people will seize the occasion to be insolent and contemptuous, and affairs will no longer be carried out.’ Foxing did not heed him. Before long, an estate laborer indeed murdered a director of affairs” (Ke'an ji).
