4.16

月堂曰。黃太史魯直嘗言。黃龍南禪師器量深厚。不為事物所遷。平生無矯飾。門弟子有終身不見其喜怒者。雖走使致力之輩。一以誠待之。故能不動聲氣而起慈明之道。非苟然也（一本見黃龍石刻）。

Yuetang said: "Grand Historian Huang Luzhi once said: 'Chan Master Huanglong Nan had a capacity that was deep and generous, never moved by external things. Throughout his life he had no pretense; among his disciples, there were those who never saw him in joy or anger their whole lives. Even toward servants and menials, he treated them throughout with sincerity. Thus, without altering his voice or demeanor, he could raise up the Way of Ciming. This was by no means accidental.'"
