4.31

拙菴謂尤侍郎曰。聖賢之意。含緩而理明。優游而事顯。所用之事不期以速成。而許以持久。不許以必進。而許以庶幾。用是推聖賢之意。故能亘萬世而持之無過失者乃爾（幻菴集）。

Zhuo'an said to Vice Minister You, "The intent of the sages and worthies is reserved and gentle, yet the principle is bright; it is leisurely and untroubled, yet affairs are manifest. In the affairs they employ, they do not expect rapid completion, but allow for lasting endurance; they do not require inevitable advance, but allow for proximate success. Applying this to infer the intent of the sages and worthies, they were thus able to span ten thousand generations and maintain it without fault; it is just like this." (Collection of Huan'an)
