4.47

或菴既領住持。士庶翕然來歸。衲子傳至虎丘。瞎堂曰。遮箇山蠻杜拗子。放拍盲禪治爾那一隊野狐精。或菴聞之以偈答曰。山蠻杜拗得能憎。領眾匡徒似不曾。越格倒拈苕菷柄。拍盲禪治野狐僧。瞎堂笑而已（記聞）。

After Huo'an assumed the abbacy, literati and commoners gathered and turned to him in harmony. When the patch-robed monks reported this to Huqiu, Xiatang said, 'That mountain barbarian, obstinate fellow, is putting forth blind Chan to cure that pack of wild fox spirits of yours!' Huo'an heard of this and answered with a verse, saying: / 'A mountain barbarian, obstinate fellow, is truly hateful; / Leading the assembly and directing disciples, it is as if I never have. / Transgressing standards, I hold the broomstick upside down; / With blind Chan I cure wild fox monks.' / Xiatang merely laughed." (Hear-say)
