4.62

慈受深和尚謂徑山訥和尚曰。二三十年來禪門蕭索殆不堪看。諸方長老奔南走北不知其數。分煙散眾滿目皆是。惟師兄神情不動坐享安逸。豈可與碌碌者同日而語也。欽歎欽歎。此段因緣自非道充德實行解相應。豈多得也。更冀勉力誘引後昆。使曹源涸而復漲。覺樹凋而再春。實區區下懷之望也（筆帖）。

Master Cishou Shen said to Master Jingshan Ne: "For the past twenty or thirty years, the Chan gate has been bleak and desolate, barely bearable to look upon. Countless elders in all quarters run south and race north. The separation of communities and the scattering of assemblies fill the eye everywhere. Only you, elder brother, remain unmoved in spirit and sit enjoying peace and ease. How could you be spoken of in the same breath with the mediocre? I admire and sigh in praise of you! Such a course of events cannot be attained in abundance unless one's practice of the Way is full, one's virtue solid, and one's conduct and understanding correspond to each other. Furthermore, I hope you will strive to guide and lead subsequent generations, making the source of Caoxi swell again after drying up, and the tree of awakening blossom with another spring. This is truly the humble yearning of my small mind." (Letters)
