"From now on, arouse a resolute mind; three times during the day and three times during the night, hold fixed your fundamental investigation, looking to see what principle it is, making sure to seek a clear resolution. As days and years accumulate, without training away torpor, torpor naturally recedes; without eliminating distraction, distraction naturally ceases. Pure and unmixed, mental thoughts do not arise. Suddenly you understand it, like awakening from a dream. Looking back at before, all was empty and illusory, while the fundamental essence itself has been originally ready and complete, and the myriad phenomena stand arrayed with their total functioning solely revealed. In this Great Ming realm, it will not have been in vain to be a human being, and toward this Dharma gate, it will not have been in vain to be a monk. Then, going on to spend your days according to conditions—how delightful it will be! How joyous it will be! All day reciting the Buddha, you do not know that it is entirely the Buddha reciting. If you do not know, you must inspect: 'Who is the one reciting the Buddha?' Let the eye gaze fixedly, and the mind hold it fixedly, making sure to seek out its whereabouts."
