先期堂司率眾財營供養。至日隔宿如法鋪設法堂。座上掛真。嚴設中間祭筵上下間几案供具。當晚諷經正日散忌特為茶湯拈香宣疏。出班上香大眾展拜（並同達磨忌禮）但無念誦。初夜回向云（淨法界身本無出沒。大悲願力示有去來。仰冀慈悲俯垂昭鑒。正月十七日。伏值百丈大智覺照弘宗妙行禪師大和尚示寂之辰。率比丘眾營備香羞。以伸供養。諷誦大佛頂萬行首楞嚴神呪。所集殊勳上酬慈廕。伏願曇花再現。重開覺花之春。惠日長明。永燭昏衢之夜。十方三世一切云云）。

In advance, the hall office collects communal funds to prepare the offerings. When the day comes, the night before, they arrange the dharma hall in accordance with the rules. The portrait is hung above the seat. In the center they solemnly set out the offering banquet, and in the upper and lower bays the tables and offering implements. That evening sūtras are chanted, and on the main day the memorial service is concluded with special hospitality tea and hot water, burning incense, reciting the statement, stepping out of the ranks to offer incense, and the assembly bowing with mats spread (all identical to the protocol for Bodhidharma's Memorial Day), except that there is no invocation recitation. The transfer of merit in the initial night watch says: "The body of the pure Dharma-realm fundamentally neither appears nor disappears; by the power of great compassionate vows, it manifests coming and going. Looking upward, we hope your compassionate kindness will look down and clearly witness: on this seventeenth day of the first month, humbly meeting the anniversary of Chan Master Baizhang Dazhi Juezhao Hongzong Miaoxing, the Great Upādhyāya, entering tranquility, we lead the assembly of monks in preparing fragrant delicacies to extend our offerings, and recite the Divine Mantra of the Śūraṅgama of the Great Buddha's Uṣṇīṣa and the Ten Thousand Practices. May the extraordinary merit accumulated thereby repay from above your compassionate shelter. We humbly pray: may the udumbara flower reappear, reopening the spring of awakened flowers; may the sun of wisdom shine perpetually, forever illuminating the night of the dark paths. All [Buddhas of the ten directions and three times], and so forth."
