The above two works, comprising three fascicles in total, [were translated by] the Indian śramaṇa Zhu Foshuo. In the reign of Emperor Ling, he brought the Daoxing jing to Luoyang and rendered the Sanskrit into Chinese. The translator faltered at times, and although there were shortcomings in the intended meaning, the phrased expressions discarded literary ornament in favor of simplicity, deeply capturing the intent of the sūtra. Later, during the Guanghe era, he retranslated the Banzhou [sanmei jing]; Lokakṣema served as the interpreter, and Meng Fu, Zhang Lian, and others served as scribes. The phrasing was slightly superior to the former.
