13.31

述曰。南屏晚見法智。其所立義有時而違。今賢師所說。不為貳講之見取。疑此師一稟南屏之言。故貳講得以破之。然世無聞其名。可謂烈士。乃師忻然許其破不以為忌。真賢乎哉。

The commentary states: Nanping met Fazhi late in life, and the doctrines he established were sometimes contrary to [Fazhi’s]. As for what Master Xian taught, it was not accepted by his assistant lecturer. I suspect that this Master solely adhered to Nanping's words, which was why the assistant lecturer was able to refute them. Yet the world has never heard of his name; he may well be called a man of resolute character! For the Master joyfully permitted his refutation without taking offense—was he not truly worthy?
