14.35

行人宗利。會稽高氏。七歲受業於天華。既具戒。往姑蘇依神悟。即入普賢懺室。要期三載。忽夢亡母謝曰。蒙汝懺功已獲生處。又見普賢從空過前。懺畢復往靈芝謁大智律師。增受戒法。夢大智在座呼宗利名。口吐白珠令吞之。又於靜定中神遊淨土見寶池蓮華寶林境界。尋詣新城碧沼。

The practitioner Zongli was of the Gao clan from Kuaiji. At the age of seven, he studied at Tianhua. After receiving the full precepts, he went to Gusu to rely on Shenwu, and straightway entered the Samantabhadra repentance chamber, setting a period of three years. He suddenly dreamed of his deceased mother thanking him, saying, “Thanks to the merit of your repentance, I have already obtained a place of rebirth.” He also saw Samantabhadra passing before him through the sky. When the repentance was completed, he went again to Lingzhi to visit the Vinaya Master Dazhi and receive an advancement of the precepts. He dreamed that Dazhi, seated upon the seat, called Zongli by name, spat a white pearl from his mouth, and ordered him to swallow it. Moreover, in tranquil concentration, his spirit roamed to the Pure Land, where he saw the jeweled ponds, lotus flowers, and jeweled groves. Soon after, he visited Bizhao in Xincheng.
