27.105

法持。居化度寺修彌陀懺三年。燼二指增受戒法。造西方三聖像。誦觀經彌陀經如意輪呪。願促閻浮之壽蚤生安樂之邦。一日小疾。哭慟懇告願垂接引。念佛之聲聞於百步。忽見佛身丈六立於池上。即自言曰。我已得中品生。端坐面西而化。

Fachi resided at Huadu Temple and cultivated the Amitābha Repentance for three years. He burned two fingers and received the higher precepts. He made statues of the Three Holy Ones of the Western Direction and recited the Contemplation Sūtra, the Amitābha Sūtra, and the Cintāmaṇicakra Dhāraṇī, vowing to shorten his lifespan in Jambudvīpa and be born early in the Land of Peace and Joy. One day, falling slightly ill, he wept bitterly and pleaded earnestly, praying for welcoming and guidance, his voice recollecting the Buddha audible for a hundred paces. Suddenly he saw the sixteen-foot body of the Buddha standing above the pool. Thereupon he said to himself: "I have obtained middle-grade rebirth." He sat upright facing west and passed away.
