Chongyi resided at Jingguang in Qiantang. Piercing himself to draw blood, he wrote out the Seven Pure Land Sūtras, and also wrote the Lotus Sūtra in gold and carved statues of the Three Holy Ones of the Western Direction. Relying on the meditation method of cessation and contemplation, he recollected Amitābha Buddha. One day he fell ill and took no medicine; holding incense, he repented before the Buddha and asked the great assembly to assist in recollecting the Buddha and chant the Amitābha Sūtra. When they reached "the Western World," he quietly passed away.
