仲明。居山陰報恩。素無戒檢。偶因感疾。謂同學道寧曰。我今心識散亂何藥可治。寧云。但隨息念佛為上藥。明即依法念之。至七日力已困。寧又令想目前佛像。久之忽見二菩薩。次又見佛迎接。瞑目而化。

Zhongming resided at Bao'en in Shanyin. By nature he lacked moral restraint. Happening to fall ill, he said to his fellow student Daoning: "My consciousness is now scattered and confused; what medicine can cure it?" Ning said: "Simply recollecting the Buddha with each breath is the supreme medicine." Ming then recollected according to the method. By the seventh day, his strength was exhausted. Ning further told him to visualize the Buddha image before him. After a long while, he suddenly saw two bodhisattvas, and next saw the Buddha welcoming him; he closed his eyes and passed away.
