道生。居常熟興福。造丈六彌陀像。得縣令梅汝能。施財籹采。即集眾諷經念佛。陳白慟哭。辭佛歸臥房。書偈坐亡。

Daosheng resided at Xingfu in Changshu. He fashioned a sixteen-foot Amitābha image, and received funds from the magistrate Mei Runeng for painting and gilding. He then gathered the assembly to chant sūtras and the Buddha's name, declaring and weeping bitterly. He bid farewell to the Buddha, returned to his sleeping chamber, wrote a verse, sat, and passed away.
