慧海。隋大業時居江都安樂寺。專心淨業。得齊州道詮所遺無量壽佛像。殷勤禮懺。像忽放光。自是懇求往生愈切。一日面西趺坐。念佛而化。

Huihai. During the Daye era of the Sui, he resided at Anle Temple in Jiangdu, dedicated exclusively to the pure karma. He obtained an image of the Buddha of Immeasurable Life left behind by Daoquan of Qizhou, and diligently paid reverence and practiced repentance before it. The image suddenly radiated light. From then on, his earnest aspiration to attain rebirth became even more fervent. One day, facing west and sitting cross-legged, he passed away while reciting the Buddha's name.
