法華非祕密是祕密。玄文。法華是顯露非祕密。又云。法華是祕密。般若非祕密。籤云。前是顯非密者。謂非覆隱之密。如前教有二乘發心。不令未發心者知。是故覆密。今望般若為密者。此是祕妙之密。般若中無。法華為勝。又玄云。般若不明二乘作佛。故非祕密。又玄引大論。餘經非祕密。法華為祕密。籤云。非八教中之祕密。但是前所未說為祕。開已無復為祕（即四十餘年不說也）。

The Lotus Sūtra is not secret, yet is secret: The Xuan text states: 'The Lotus is manifest, not secret.' It also says: 'The Lotus is secret; the Prajñā is not secret.' The Qian says: 'The former statement that it is manifest and not secret means that it is not the secrecy of concealment. As in the previous teachings, where two vehicles generated the aspiration without letting those who had not yet generated it know, this was concealed secrecy. Now, looking at it in comparison with Prajñā, it is secret in the sense of the secrecy of the esoteric and wonderful; not being present in Prajñā, the Lotus is superior.' The Xuan also says: 'Prajñā does not make clear that the two vehicles attain Buddhahood; therefore, it is not secret.' Furthermore, the Xuan cites the Dazhidulun: 'Other sutras are not secret; the Lotus is secret.' The Qian says: 'It is not the secret of the eight teachings; rather, it is secret merely in the sense of being previously unsaid; once opened, it is no longer secret' (that is, not having been spoken for over forty years).
