3.61

七處八會者。是舊經六十卷。晉跋陀羅譯。天台所引用者。若新譯八十卷。是唐實叉難陀譯。更加普光明一會。是為七處九會。三十九品。唯阿僧祇隨好光明是佛說。餘皆加被諸菩薩說。

The seven locations and eight assemblies are from the older sixty-fascicle sūtra translated by Buddhabhadra under the Jin, which Tiantai cites. In the newly translated eighty-fascicle version translated by Śikṣānanda under the Tang, an additional assembly at Universal Radiance was added, making seven locations and nine assemblies, in thirty-nine chapters. Only the chapter on Asamkhyeyas and the chapter on the Light from the Secondary Marks were preached by the Buddha; the rest were all spoken by various bodhisattvas under his empowerment.
