Bathing the Monks: A devaputra of the Śuddhāvāsa Heaven requested the Buddha and the Saṃgha to bathe and offered them food. The Buddha told Ānanda, 'Through this meritorious deed, this deity will in the future become a Buddha named Pure Body' (from the *Sūtra of the Wise and the Foolish*; Śuddhāvāsa is the name of a devaputra. Whenever one is called a "deva" without bearing the name of the six heavens of desire or the eighteen heavens of the form realm, all are devaputras, just as Jīvaka, Viśvakarman, and so forth are all devaputras of the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven). Frequent bathing is permitted because it produces worldly good (from the *Dharmaguptaka Vinaya*).
