35.12

述曰。洪興祖有云。梁孝標注新語。引列仙傳序言。七十四人已見佛經。今書肆板行者。乃云七十四人已在仙經。蓋是道流擅改之耳。然天祿有佛經此語可證。

The commentary states: Hong Xingzu remarked: "When Liang Xiaobiao annotated the Shishuo xinyu, he quoted the preface to the Liexian zhuan as saying, 'Seventy-four of them are already found in Buddhist sūtras.' What is printed by contemporary booksellers now reads, 'Seventy-four of them are already in the Immortals' scriptures.' This must be an unauthorised alteration made by the Daoists. Thus, the statement that there were Buddhist sūtras in the Tianlu Pavilion is verified by this."
