In the fifth year, Zhou Zhan, the Grand Administrator of Luling, presented a golden image nine feet and three inches tall, saying that the monk Fajun had obtained it in a dream. Following up on this, he searched as far as the Sanqu River, where light floated on the water's surface; when sought, it was indeed found. Soon after, Changsha Commandery presented a golden-radiant pedestal, saying that a fisherman had obtained it upon the water. When the image was placed on it, they matched as one.
Li Daogu, an envoy from Wei, came to court. Because the monk Sengzhong of Zhongxing Temple was talented and eloquent, the Emperor summoned him to be the host of the guest house. Talking with him without pause past noon, [Sengzhong] would not eat. Daogu said: 'Could it be that you are a śrāvaka?' Zhong said: 'To those who are to be saved by the body of a śrāvaka, [a bodhisattva] immediately appears as a śrāvaka to preach the Dharma to them.' At that time, it was praised as a famous response.
