In the seventh year, the layman Ming Sengshao of Pingyuan renounced his residence on Mount She to become Qixia Monastery. Because Master Zhi deluded the worldly populace, the Emperor seized him and committed him to the Jiankang prison. On that day, the people of the capital all saw the Great Being roaming in the markets. That evening he said to the jailer, 'There are two carriage-loads of food outside the gate; bring them in for me.' Shortly thereafter, Crown Prince Wenhui and the Prince of Jingling arrived bringing offerings. When the Prefect of Jiankang reported this, the Emperor repented, apologized, and welcomed him into the inner palace, lodging him in the Hualin Garden. The Prince of Jingling lectured on the *Satyasiddhi* and the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* (Three Treatises) at Hongji Monastery; in a dream he composed a tune on the *Vimalakīrti*, and ordered Sengbian to recite and chant it; a flock of cranes soared and danced on the steps, departing once the chant finished. The Western Tianzhu śramaṇas Mahāyāna, Devaśreṣṭhin (Dejin), and others translated various scriptures and vinayas.
