37.61

良渚曰。傳燈言。武帝請大士講金剛般若。執拍板唱四十九頌觀。竹庵云。多用三性義語。恐北方相宗人託大士名。或云秖以拍板。揮案一下。誌公云。大士講經竟。然大士入朝。誌公已去世二十年。何從有此問答。樓頴編大士言行錄甚詳亦不載此事。

Liangzhu said: "The Chuandeng [lu] states: Emperor Wu invited the Mahāsattva to lecture on the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā. Holding clappers, he sang the forty-nine verse-contemplations. Zhu'an said: 'These mostly use the terms of the three natures; I fear they were attributed to the Mahāsattva's name by northern adherents of the characteristics school (Xiangzong).' Or it is said that he merely struck the table once with clappers. Master Zhi said: 'The Mahāsattva has finished expounding the sūtra.' However, when the Mahāsattva entered the court, Master Zhi had already passed away twenty years earlier. From where could there be this dialogue? Lou Ying compiled the Record of the Words and Deeds of the Mahāsattva in great detail, and it also does not record this matter."
