38.52

冀州沙門法慶為行無賴。為其徒所擯。乃去為祅術說。渤海李歸伯率鄉人為亂。眾推慶為主。自號大乘佛。以歸伯為十住菩薩平魔漢王。屠滅寺舍斬害僧尼焚燒經卷。云新佛出世除去眾魔。詔元遙使持節討破之。禽法慶歸伯。傳首京師。餘黨悉平。

The monk Faqing of Jizhou was rogue in his conduct and was expelled by his fellows; he then left and practiced demonic sorcery. Li Guibo of Bohai led local people in rebellion, and the crowd elevated Qing as their leader. He called himself the Mahāyāna Buddha and appointed Guibo as the Han King Who Levels Demons and Bodhisattva of the Ten Abodes. They slaughtered monasteries, decapitated and harmed monks and nuns, and burned scriptures, declaring, 'A new Buddha has appeared in the world to eradicate all demons.' An edict ordered Yuan Yao to hold the imperial tally and campaign against them, crushing them. They captured Faqing and Guibo and sent their severed heads to the capital; all the remaining partisans were pacified.
