38.69

述曰。修靜生於晉末與遠公遊。屍解於宋之泰始。則說簡寂。自泰始至梁天監。已四十年。不應今日復有修靜。若曰因梁棄道自梁奔魏。當云陸修靜之門徒。斯為可信也矣。

The commentary says: Lu Xiujing was born at the end of the Jin dynasty and roamed with Master Huiyuan. He underwent corpse-deliverance during the Taishi reign-era of the Liu Song, when he was named Master Jianji. From Taishi to the Tianjian era of Liang, forty years had already elapsed; it is not fitting that there should still have been Xiujing in this day. If it is said that because Liang abandoned Daoism he fled from Liang to Wei, it should refer to Lu Xiujing's disciples—only then can it be believed.
