述曰。佛制受戒以先後為次序。今玄嶷以新戒而居三十夏僧之上。雖曰國恩實違佛制。厥後劉總賜五十夏。梁令因加三十臘。皆本於此日之非法也。

The author remarks: In the Buddha's regulation, the order of receiving ordination determines seniority. Now Xuanyi, being newly ordained, was placed above monks with thirty summer retreats. Although this was said to be state favor, it truly violated the Buddha's regulation. That later Liu Zong was granted fifty summer retreats and Liang Lingyin was added thirty winter retreats both had their roots in the illegality of this day.
