Eleventh year. An edict summoned Dharma Master Lingyu of Xiangzhou to the capital to serve as State Controller. Yu submitted three memorials declining the appointment. The Emperor tried to retain him, but could not, and said to the Vice Director Su Wei, 'We know Master Yu is upright and unyielding.' Thereupon, the Emperor bestowed generous gifts upon him and sent him back to the mountains, personally inscribing 'Lingquan' as the name of his monastery. In the eleventh month, King Guang of Jin (Emperor Wen's second son), Commander-in-Chief of Yangzhou, welcomed Chan Master Yi. When he arrived at the garrison, the Prince arranged an assembly of a thousand monks to receive the bodhisattva precepts, conferring upon the Master the title 'Zhizhe' (Wise One).
