In the seventeenth year, Fei Changfang, scholar of the translation bureau, presented the Record of the Three Jewels of the Kaihuang Era in fifteen fascicles. Changfang had formerly been a monk; when Emperor Wu of the Zhou purged the sangha, he returned to lay life. When the Sui arose, he entered to assist in the translation of scriptures. / In the tenth month, the Prince of Jin sent an emissary to welcome the Great Teacher Zhiyi. Arriving at Shicheng, the master claimed he was ill, saying to his disciple Zhiyue: 'The Great Prince wished me to come, and I did not break my word. I know my life ends here, so there is no need to proceed.' Thereupon, lying on his right side facing west, he devoted his mindfulness to Amitābha. On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, having preached the Dharma to the assembly, he entered samādhi. His disciples escorted his sacred coffin back to Folong and entombed it on the southwest peak.
