4.15

舍利弗目犍連。不忍見佛涅槃。遂先入滅。七萬阿羅漢亦同時入滅。時四輩弟子莫不荒亂。如來以神通力化作二弟子在佛左右。眾生歡喜憂惱即除（薩婆多論）。

Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana, unable to bear seeing the Buddha's nirvāṇa, entered extinction beforehand. Seventy thousand arhats also entered extinction at the same time. At that time, the four classes of disciples were utterly distraught. The Tathāgata, through supernatural power, emanated two disciples to his left and right; the sentient beings rejoiced, and their sorrow was immediately dispelled (Sarvāstivāda-śāstra).
